If I had a dollar for every time someone told me they knew how the search engines work, I'd be rich. You have probably gotten those spam e-mails touting search engine placement, guaranteed.
The truth is that nobody knows exactly how each of the search engines works, since the mechanisms are proprietary. They can only make guesses. Most of the suggestions I have seen in these "secrets" documents are pretty worthless. This is because the search engines have gotten smarter, and they know when people with worthless content are trying to fool them. In fact, if they suspect as much, they will actually discard the link to your site and it won't be found at all. So don't try cheating.
